Teach me about 4Runners. This seems to be in pretty good shape... I could trade the Kia in on this without many marital or financial issues. Only 118060 miles... which stresses me out.
I have no knowledge of any toyota vehicles, but the urge for a 4WD is really strong these days. I think it has to happen in 2019.
My Dad would kill me for trading in a 2018 with 3,000 miles on something older with way more miles. This would have AC though...
My gas is paid for, my maintenance is tax deductible...

Fairly solid.
Some of the earlier year 4th gens have head gasket issues, dash cracking, 4Lo can become inop if it’s not used. Watch for rust too.

04 with 100k miles? It has been babied.
I have 05 GX470. which is essentially same car with different badging. Pain in the ass was replacing header gaskets because exhaust leak was something fierce and MPGs were suffering a bit because of it. It’s not easy to get to. I did one side. Dealer did other. In any case. Car is decent. I would get it and not look back.
HOWEVER!!! you might find something for a bit less coin. 15k for this car is a bit much. I bought mine 4-5 years ago for about this price with 42K miles on it.
Shop around a bit. If you are OK with the price, be it. No sense in haggling over 20 bucks and missing out on it if you like the car.
Have it checked over for leaks etc. Do the blind owner maintenance - assume nothing was changed and change regular suspects - plugs, fluids, filters etc. Belts. you know the deal.

I had an opportunity to buy a 2010 v6 with 30k miles back in 2012 for about $28k and I didn’t. I regret that decision each time I add oil to my Subaru Outback. The 4 Runner would still be a solid rig, and I’m ditching the Subaru soon.

I had a 2008. Solid rig. The only issue I ever had was the tire pressure sensors

I wouldn’t be looking at dealers, they know what they have. Tacoma and 4Runner are moneymakers for them.
You want someone who is buying a 5th Gen and selling their 4th Gen. The nice thing is there are so many out there.
The 4L is the same as our old one- headgaskets killed it. But usually the 4Runners are bulletproof.

Seems likely. He is wanting a V6 4Runner for improved fuel economy. He asked if I was interested, but it's about 6-8 months too soon for me, I has no monies.

Engine and transmission are probably just fine. But, at that mileage, quite a few things need to be replaced or are about to go , so a lot depends on what’s been done. Timing belt, water pump, 120k mile service (spark plugs, all fluids in transfer case, both diffs, transmission etc. ), front and rear shocks, select bushings, oxygen sensors, ball joints.. list is long. I’d get a detailed PPI, and if the work is done in a dealership or a mechanic, be ready for a few grand in cost.

The cars themselves are great. Biggest thing to watch for is that the timing belt has been done. Although I think this one is a little high on price. If it were a 2009 I might not think so but for the first year of the 4G, even with relatively low miles, 15K is a lot of scratch.

Good news, you’re not going to lose much money if you buy a 4th gen, unless you significantly overpay for one. Admittedly, overpaying for a Toyota 4x4 isn’t difficult to do. With my 4Runner, there are times I wished I would’ve hunted out a used one, until I see the price they’re fetching!
